Life has been quite good since high school. I attended Augsburg College because my parents said I had to go to a Lutheran College, so I chose Augsburg since my boyfriend (later husband) was at Hamline University. Dave and I married a week after I graduated with a B.A. in English from Augsburg. Dave had one year left in the Navy, so we moved to California, found out it's pretty nice not to be freezing in Jan/Feb/Mar, so made it our home, however, we bought cabins on Green Lake, east of Princeton, so spent summers here since we were both teachers.
I love to travel, and Dave was very sweet in putting up with it. We went to Europe several times, cruised the Caribbean, Mediterranean, went through the Panama Canal, up to Alaska, and one year we took a sabbatical and went to all seven continents of the world--waddled with penguins in Antartica, swam with the turtles in the Galapagos, hiked Easter Island, as well as the Milford Trekk in New Zealand, went across the old USSR on the Transibearian railroad, skied the Swiss Alps, stayed in rondavals in game reserves in South Africa, sailed on the Amazon, staying in tree huts, and met about 150 relatives in Norway and Sweden where I now go almost yearly.
Unfortunately Dave passed away three years ago, after 43 years of marriage, so it has been a very sad adjustment for me, and I have to thank my relatives, friends and dear students at CLU for getting me through it.
I retired from full time teaching at California Lutheran University this spring, but will return this fall to teach Individual Tax and Senior Seminar in Accounting. Oh, yes, I did go back to the university when I was 34 to do an accounting program. I became a CPA, and then did an MBA so I could teach. Luckily they consider my CPA as being equivalent to having a PhD.
To make myself get out of the house, I joined a Scandinavian dance class, found out I love doing the old-time dances, so am now in two different performing groups in CA. This summer I am also dancing with the Northstar Dancers in St. Paul on a weekly basis.
In February I plan to go to Roros, Norway, for their winter celebration that includes lots of dancing, and then will go north to see the Northern Lights and stay at the world famous Ice Hotel.
Next summer I have booked a 15 day trip to Norway, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Poland, Russia, Finland, and Sweden--so traveling is still important to me. I really am not happy if I don't have airline tickets on my counter. I just wish I still had my traveling buddy. He really was my best friend as well as being my husband.
